When attempting to log in with Google, you may sometimes see the following error message:
"Access blocked: This request is blocked by Google’s policies. Error 403: disallowed_useragent."
This happens most often if you are trying to log in through an embedded browser (sometimes called an in-app browser). These are the mini-browsers that open when you click a link inside another app, such as:
- Email apps
- Other mobile apps that display a web page without opening your full browser
Why does this happen?
Google blocks login attempts from embedded browsers because they do not meet Google’s security and privacy requirements.
Embedded browsers:
- Have limited features compared to full browsers like Safari or Chrome.
- Do not always support the latest security standards.
- May expose you to security risks.
To protect your account, Google only allows sign-ins through secure, fully supported browsers.
How to fix it
If you see this message:
- Copy the link and open it in a full browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.).
- If you are on iPhone/iPad:
- Tap the share button in the in-app browser.
- Select “Open in Safari” (or your preferred browser).
- If you are on Android:
- Tap the three dots menu in the top corner.
- Choose “Open in Chrome” (or your preferred browser).
Once you open the link in a supported browser, you should be able to log in without any issues.
