When creating channels in IHUBApp to host content, there are four primary types available, each designed to serve different access needs and content visibility. Understanding the differences will help you choose the best option for your audience and content.
In this article we review the following types of channels:
1. Public Channels
Public Channels are open for all users to view and join without any approvals. Anyone visiting your IHUBApp can see the channel and its content without needing to be a member. This is ideal for sharing content that you want to be fully accessible, like announcements or public events.
Key Features:
- Visible to all users, even non-members.
- No approval needed to join.
- Content is available to anyone.
2. Request-to-Join Channels (RTJ)
Also known as Membership Channels, Request-to-Join Channels require users to send a request to access content. While users can see that the channel exists, they cannot view its content until the request is approved by a Channel Owner or Administrator.
Key Features:
- Channel visibility but restricted content access until approval.
- Requests must be managed by an admin or channel owner.

3. Private Channels
Private Channels are completely hidden from users unless they have been invited by the Channel Owner or Administrator. These channels do not appear in any search results or listings, ensuring that content remains completely confidential.
Key Features:
- Completely hidden until invite is sent.
- Users must be invited to view and join.
- Ideal for confidential or exclusive content.
4. Paid Channels
Paid Channels allow you to monetize your content by charging users to access the channel. Only users who have successfully subscribed to or purchased access can view the content in these channels. This is perfect for premium content, courses, or exclusive material you want to offer for a fee.
Key Features:
- Content is locked behind a paywall.
- Only paying subscribers can view or join.
- Great for exclusive content, premium memberships, or paid courses.
Additional Note:
When posting content in IHUBApp, you can select multiple channel types. If you do, content will always display in any Public Channel selected, and also in any Request-to-Join or Private Channels chosen. This helps ensure broader or more exclusive reach based on your content strategy.
